According to the Austin American-Statesman, “Wendy Colonna is not just a singer-songwriter, she’s a force of nature.” Asleep at the Wheel’s Ray Benson raves that Barbara Nesbitt has “a voice that is clear as a mountain meadow and emotive as Patsy Cline” and “sings songs of life’s journeys with fire, grace, and country soul.” And the classically trained Emily Shirley is both a key member of Austin’s acclaimed group the Belle Sounds and an accomplished solo artist in her own right, whose 2021 album DuoTone was described by Glide Magazine as a “genre-bending hybrid of indie-pop melodies woven over thoughtful, grounded lyrics.” Put the three of them together on one stage, though, and the real magic begins! Longtime friends Colonna and Nesbitt first teamed up with Shirley right before the pandemic, forming Sister Golden Hair as a crowd-pleasing tribute project devoted to celebrating the harmony-rich hit songs of the ’60s and ’70s. On special occasions, though — such as intimate engagements at listening rooms like the Bugle Boy! — they focus less on the tribute act stuff and more on harmonizing beautifully together on their own stellar songs, albeit not “song-swap” style but rather as a seasoned band with three equally compelling front woman songwriters. But because it just wouldn’t be a Sister Golden Hair without at least a few classic covers (not to mention fun stories and laughs) sprinkled into the mix, rest assured you’ll still hear a happy helping of those, too!
